Grade one magistrate court in Rukungiri presided over by His worship Wakayemba Martin yesterday remanded 5 activists to Rukungiri government prisons up to 26th May 2022 over incitement of violence.
The five were arrested on Wednesday by a combined security force that was deployed to quell a planned protest against the increasing commodity prices in Rukungiri
Among those remanded yesterday is Kamusiime Boaz 24 , a resident of Butagatsi cell, Kinyasano ward, Western Division , also the Municipal youth councilor who doubles as deputy municipal speaker, Banini Moris 22 , a resident of Bwooma Northern A ward, western Division, Akampurira Moses 22 , a resident of Kiyindi cell, Rwakabengo ward, Southern division, KanyesigyeB 33 , resident of Kaceeka cell, Northern ward, Western Division a boda boda rider at omukihindi boda boda stage and Turyahabwe Abel 26 , a resident of Kakabada, Western Division all in Rukungiri district.
The five were arrested along Karegyesa Road in Rukungiri town protesting the skyrocketing commodity prices
Prosecution states that they were arrested for causing sound pollution and accusing the government of failing to regulate the prices of commodities;
They pleaded for bail but court remanded them to 26th May 2022.
Defense attorney Sarah Nasiike of Mark Mwesigye and Co. advocates says her clients deserved bail but their sureties were many which required court to take time to scrutinize them
