NEMA directed to enforce presidential directives on wetlands

The Commissioner in Office of the President in charge of the RDCs Secretariat   James Tweheyo has directed the national environment management authority staff to enforce the presidential directives on the restoration of the degraded wetlands.

He clarified that respective Resident District Commissioners and Resident City Commissioners must conduct consultative meetings with local leaders and affected communities to agree and draw a borderline between wetlands and people’s land.

 Tweheyo gave the directive while monitoring the progress made by Mbarara district natural resources staff and district leaders   in the restoration of Rubindi wetland in Rubindi town council Kashari north Mbarara district.

Tweheyo explained that the government shall not permit any person to continue destroying the environment  

RDC Mbarara Mbetegyerize Godfrey instructed the leaders to remove all illegal structures in the wetlands and restore the environment
