Parents have been asked to crosscheck with universities and institutions of learning to confirm if their children have been studying before graduation ceremonies.

On several occasions, parents and guardians have been stunned at graduation ceremonies of different learning institutions after finding out that their children were not learning all along.

Nixon Kamukama the deputy vice-chancellor of academic affairs at Mbarara University of Science Technology (MUST) says it is the duty of parents to always contact university authorities to authenticate the graduation status of their children.

Kamukama made the remarks yesterday while addressing journalists ahead of MUST’s 28th graduation ceremony which will take place tomorrow at the Kihumuro campus.

Kamukama noted that some children have a habit of deceiving their parents that they are going to graduate yet they have not been studying.

Martha Kyoshaba Twinamasiko the academic registrar Mbarara University of Science and Technology advised parents who don’t trust their children to inquire and get in touch with the institution’s authorities.

A total of 1319 students will graduate in various disciplines at Mbarara University of Science and Technology.

The first lady Janet Kataha Museveni who doubles as the minister of education and sports is expected to be the guest of honor.
